Detox & Creativity: Musicians on Kicking Drugs and Alcohol

Detox &Amp; Creativity Musicians On Kicking Drugs And Alcohol - Transformationcare

There’s a stereotype that artists must be tortured, partying hard until they die an early death. (See: Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain, Lil Peep) Today, though, some of the most iconic musicians are clean and sober. Here’s what they have to say about going through detox and coming out on the other side in recovery.

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith told GQ, “When you’re high and you create something out of thin air, and the whole world is singing your fucking song that you wrote stoned, it’s hard to think that getting high wasn’t the reason that all that happened. All the magic that you thought worked when you were high comes out when you get sober. You realize it was always there, and your fear goes away.”

Kathleen Hanna, Bikini Kill: “What is punk rock about getting wasted? Isn’t it punk rock to be sober and change the world?”

Keith Morris, Black Flag: “Sobriety has not changed my outlook or approach to music or my life. I just don’t use!”

Tom Waits: “When you drink, you’re probably robbing yourself of that genuine experience, even though it appears what you’re doing is getting more of it. You’re getting less of it.”

Trent Reznor: “I had romanticized the idea of what drugs and alcohol’s role in my life was … It wound up creating chaos and destroying things. Destroying creativity in my case.”

The only way to know how detox and residential treatment for drugs and alcohol could affect your life, personality, and creativity is to try it.

GUIDE

Getting Clean & Sober at Home

Today, more than 75% of hospitals and healthcare providers offer access to telehealth treatment, with 29 states having gone so far as to enact telehealth parity laws, which force insurance companies to reimburse patients for telehealth at the same rates as they would for in-person treatment.

If you’ve been thinking about getting clean and sober, or if you’ve been wanting to work on and strengthen the recovery you already have, it’s never been easier to do it through telehealth.
